When you’re starting a business, there’s usually a ton of different things that you will want to keep in mind. Because not only do you need to get the planning right, but you will want to make sure that you’re getting everything prepared so that you will find success.
No matter what kind of business you start, or what kind of work you do, you may find that you want to build up traction right from the start – that’s where PR comes in. To do it well, it’s important for you to think about the ways you’re going to get publicity and promote your company in the right way. It pays to be as exciting as you possibly can here. (Without going overboard mind, stick to the type of comms that’re suited to your brand and its image).
If you’re a new brand, budget for PR might not be in your remit. Good PR is beyond effective, but it’ll cost you. And if you’re starting out you’ll want minimal spends with maximum returns, right? So, your best bet is playing around with a little DIY marketing and PR at first, and then expanding on this when you have your foundations in place.
So if this sounds like you are you’re wondering how to get your new brand out there, well, let’s take a look at some options that might help you.
Expand Your Marketing
To start with, one of the things that you might like to do is to think about expanding your marketing a lot more. If you’re only ever doing the same kinds of marketing, then you’re limiting yourself. Yes, sending out pitches is important. But it’s not the only thing you can do. Here, you can work with SEO experts, a PPC company, a publicist, or even try some paid social media posts yourself. Do more and see what works! Trial and error will come into play here, it’s important to test the waters with what works at first and the most cost-effective way to do this is to organise it yourself. Then, once you know what suits you and your brand (it could be PR, PPC, SEO, or it could be a mix of any of them) it’s time to go full steam ahead with it.
Encourage Word Of Mouth
Another thing that’s really important to any business, and especially those that are just starting out in the industry, is word of mouth marketing and recommendations. In fact, this can be the most important of all. Really try to incentivize your customers to spread the word and tell their friends about your company with freebies or different offers. Online reviews are one of the most effective ways to do this, you’d be surprised at how many people would be more inclined to engage with your brand off the back of positive Google, Facebook, TrustIST reviews etc.
Work With Influencers
Influencers are all the range right now, and choosing the right ones can really help promote your business and get your brand out there. Microbloggers on platforms like Instagram can help you to grow your brand, sell products, and tap into your audience in a more intentional way. So if you are not already working with influencers, this could be your next move. Think about whether you can source a handful of influencers and create campaigns with them so that you can start to make waves. Influener marketing can be done by yourself, but if you’re planning on really fleshing out on it, it’s best to get an influencer marketing agency involved.
Build An Email List
Something that can be really powerful, is building an email list. This is something that is an oldie, but goodie. Because you own that email list and you can market to them in any way that you like. And they are often loyal customers. So this is something that you might want to do right at the start. Then work on building up your list of subscribers to boost your exposure.
Start A Podcast
Finally, you may also want to think about launching a podcast. We all know that blogs are great. They’re great for SEO and promotional content – but why not go one step further and aim to get into the ears of your audience too? Starting a podcast may seem alien to you, but these days, it seems as if people have way more time to listen on the go than they do reading. In the car, on the way to work, while working out – and this is how you can get your name out there more. I know tonnes of PR professionals who sing the praises of podcasts and in fact, video is one of the most popular mediums on the web. If you can make use of a podcast and you can do it well, you can soon become very influential in your industry.
