The Jenner Pregnancy

If you’re a keen Twitter user, you’d have undoubtedly heard the saying ‘the devil works hard but Kris Jenner works harder’ following whichever Kardashian/Jenner stunt has hit the news last.

UPDATE: I wrote this post a while ago, but since I did the latest Kardashian drama that has come to light is that Chloe Kardashians partner, Tristan Thompson cheated on her just days before her pregnancy. It was rumoured that this actually took place months ago and only emerged in the run up to her due date. What do you think? Is this more evidence of a scheming Kris, or is Thompson just generally… trash?

But, is there any truth in the saying… Is the universal success of the Kardashian/Jenner empire a result of a hardworking PR brain pulling the strings in the background?

Well lets look at: the Kylie Jenner pregnancy.

Kept from the limelight, Jenner recently announced the birth of her first child, Stormi, accompanied with a Youtube video following her pregnancy journey (a shock to everyone… not!) Although Kylie came out following the birth and contended that this was something she wanted to keep out of the public light, it wasn’t masked just as well as she may have hoped and the general public would maintain that they definitely knew about her mum-to-be status prior to the announcement. But is this evidence of a poor cover up, or is it something bigger all together?

Eagle eyed fans of the Jenners and the Kardashians flagged up countless signs of Kylie’s alleged pregnancy before the announcement, but any PR savvy individual may just dispute as to whether these ‘slip ups’ were actually intentional works of the Jenner/Kardashian PR complex to get the ball rolling and get people talking about the family.

Whether it was intentional or not, you have to credit the ability a poorly angled photo or strategic placing of material has on starting a global dispute amongst the Jenner/Kardashian fanbase. One has to raise the question: if you are aware of your status and following, would you take such risks if you were so keen to stay out of the public eye? So, the Kardashians and the Jenners: PR savvy or t-totally genuinely just caught up in the limelight?

Me? I don’t doubt that they’re undercover PR-whizzes and that everything they do is intentional. Aware of their status and the fact that their selling point is in fact themselves, the family must keep themselves in the limelight as such in order to be successful, a statement that they probably are already far too aware of.

Whether you like them or not, it’s likely that you’ll still find yourself reading about the family more often than not as they seem to have made their bed in the public eye and revel in headlines as much as anyone ever could. The Jenner/Kardashian empire is founded on such popularity and thus, it’s more than likely that Kylie’s pregnancy was another cog in their ever turning PR wheel.

I wouldn’t brand myself of a big fan of the family, but i’m undoubtably a fan of their PR. It’s subtle, it’s sneaky and it’s downright clever – what’s not to admire?

I’m sure time will confirm this. Of course, it has already started somewhat with Kylie announcing in late February that she’d be releasing a ‘Stormi’ collection as part of her makeup brand and I don’t doubt we’ll see similar moves from the family as time moves forward.

What do you think, is it clever to use a baby as a publicity stunt – or just downright wrong? Are the Jenners/Kardashians the epitome of good PR, or are do they genuinely just get caught up in the public eye yet not by choice? Let me know below.

  1. This was such a good post, and I know for a fact (well not actually a fact) that they are definitely PR genius’. Their famous Christmas card, that didn’t include Kylie. The campaign that you have above. They wanted everyone talking about them and the “potential” that Kylie’s pregnant.

When it comes the the Khloe thing, I don’t know if she knew or not, but if she did know, I don’t think she would leak that information. I think if she knew, she tried to cover it up. I honestly feel bad, because no pregnant woman deserves the stress of being cheated on, no less a spectacle around the world. Great post Jessica! xxx

    1. Thanks so much Melina.

I definitely maintain that the coverup was a stunt, hats off to them though it certainly did the job and got everybody talking!

I agree also with the Khloe siutaiton, it was something I saw on Twitter and wasn’t sure. If it was a stunt, it was incredibly clever (though also incredibly insensitive) but I don’t believe it was. I feel awful for her and hope that she’s doing well, I don’t doubt that she’s being looked after by her family. (I read an article this morning saying that she’s forgiven her partner, though :|)

      Thanks for your lovely words!

      Jessica xx
